The Repair Shop’s Will Kirk makes big move as he opens up on family decision

Will Kirk, who has become a staple on The Repair Shop, has shared a rare insight into his family life and how he made a huge decision to benefit his wife and two children.

The expert appeared on Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend, where he chatted about everything from his job to his family life and why he made the big decision to move out of London.

Alan began: “Since you were on here back in 2021, things have happened to you. You’ve got two children now. You’re now a dad with responsibilities and a lack of sleep.”

Will chuckled as he replied: “So I have a boy and a girl. My daughter is just over two and a half, and my son is three months.”

“Sleep deprivation, you know all about that,” Alan joked before Will stated: “Yeah, I know all about that.”

When asked whether he and his family do crafts at home, Will nodded enthusiastically. He shared: “So since I last saw you, I moved from a flat in London, and I’ve moved out to Surrey in a Victorian house, and I’ve been doing a lot of gardening.

“I’ve been looking online at some of your videos about how to sow seeds and things like that. You make you look very easy.”

Alan explained: “Well, if you know how, as you know, you can make it look easy. Well, it is easy if you know how to do it; that’s the key.”

Turning his attention to going on the road with The Repair Shop and spending time with family, Alan asked Will whether he had a good work/life balance.

Alan quizzed: “It must transform your life to some extent, of doing that, rather than just running a business where you are repairing without being noticed, as it were.”

“Massively,” Will agreed as he explained: “Back in my workshop, before Repair Shop days, I’d be working seven days a week, all hours, whereas now I get to sort of finish at a reasonable time and get back to spend time with the family, which is really important.”

“At the moment, I have got it right,” the expert added.

Elsewhere in the show, Will discussed his decision to move out of London and why it was such a big deal. “I have got a garden,” he beamed before adding: “So back in London, I had a balcony with a few dying plants, and now I have got a garden.

“And my wife was very firm with, ‘Let’s start with the inside of the house first before we paint the front door and start doing the garden’ and I went straight to the garden.

“The people before us had a hot tub there. there is a big, brown patch and I thought, ‘What would Alan do?'”

Love Your Weekend returns next Sunday at 9.30am on ITV.
