So, what aromas will send rats packing from your home? The experts have shared three scents that deter them.
Peppermint
Peppermint oil is a highly effective deterrent against rodents, as they strongly dislike its smell.
The expert said: “The potent aroma of peppermint oil and similar essential oils can irritate a rodent’s sensitive nose.”
To use peppermint oil effectively, soak cotton balls or tissues in it and scatter the infused items near entry points in your home, such as windows or doors.

Cinnamon
As autumn arrives, cinnamon-scented candles become increasingly popular. This comforting scent is also potent enough to deter rats from entering your home or garden.
The experts said: “The strong, spicy scent of cinnamon can overwhelm a rodent’s strong sense of smell.”
To help deter rodents and also make your home smell amazing, place cinnamon candles or sticks around your property or soak cotton balls with cinnamon oil.
Vinegar
is a versatile household staple that serves not only as a natural cleaning solution but also as a rodent repellent.
The expert said: “The sharp, acrid smell of vinegar solutions can cause pests to avoid areas where it is used.”
To create a homemade solution, mix vinegar and water in an empty spray bottle and spray it in areas where you suspect rodents are present.
