He is currently the owner of the ‘s Chicago Bulls and Major League Baseball (MLB)’s . While he’s been the owner of the two sports teams for nearly 40 years, that wasn’t the beginning of his fortune.

The billionaire started his professional life, after graduating from Northwestern in 1960. He worked as a tax attorney with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the United States federal government’s revenue service, where his first case concerned the tax delinquency of Bill Veeck, who owned White Sox at the time.

Four years later, Jerry Reinsdorf, went into private practice and became a specialist in the real estate partnership tax shelters. Before he sold his business interests in real estate partnerships in 1973 and co-founded a real estate investment firm called Balcor.

The company raised $650 million (equivalent to £548 million today) to invest in buildings under construction and nine years later he sold the company for $102 million (around £101 million today) but remained President of the company for a few years afterwards.

After making so much money in various sectors, he was able to purchase White Sox, in 1981 and in 1985, he purchased the Chicago Bulls, which continues to contribute to the signifcant wealth he’s generated throughout his life.
