Prince George’s godmother shares family secret she only discovered recently

’s godmother has shared a secret that she has discovered since the death of her mother in 2017.

Julia Samuel, who was a close friend of ’s late mum Princess Diana, that James Guinness was not her biological father, with the psychotherapist only finding this out eight years ago when her mum Pauline Mander died.

James, who served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War, died in 2006, with Julia believing he was her real father for her entire lifetime.

She said: “Yes, James Guinness is not my biological father, although I think of him as my father. It came to light quite a few years after my parents had died, and I did not inherit a farm.”

Julia, 65, also told Eden that she cannot accept closure on this as she does not know who her biological father is. She also revealed that she does not know whether her three sisters or brother are full siblings.

This includes her sister Sabrina Guinness, who is a former girlfriend of King Charles, and artist Hugo Guinness.

While not many people know Julia, it is reported that she was close friends with Princess Diana after they met at a dinner party in 1987.

Their friendship meant that wanted Julia to be one of George’s godparents, especially as Diana herself was no longer around following her tragic death in 1997.

Although Julia has not revealed much about her relationship with William and George, she is believed to be an active presence in the young prince’s life and one revealed that she buys him noisy toys which take days to make – a running joke she said was inspired by Diana,

In conversation about George on a podcast, Julia said: “He is amazing. He’s funny and feisty and cheeky and God she [Diana] would have loved him so much.”

Talking about one of George’s birthdays, Julia revealed: “I come in slightly tipped by the size of the present that William then has to spend days putting together.

“And then put all the machinery together and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing and all of that. That makes me laugh and it makes George laugh.”
