Another Grand Slam champion and title favourite is through in . But the No. 6 seed has raised concerns that she could pull out after struggling with a back injury and hinting that it wouldn’t be alright for her next match.
On the men’s side, No. 4 seed is out. The American was stunned by tour veteran and former world No. 6 Gael Monfils, who danced in celebration after causing the upset.
Reigning champion will also continue his campaign while looks to keep the Aussie dream alive.
Monfils defying age
From fellow Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to the likes of and , plenty of Gael Monfils’ contemporaries have already retired.
While some have questioned when the 38-year-old will hang up his racket, he’s letting his tennis do the talking.
So far in 2025, the former world No. 6 has proved that age is just a number. After winning the ASB Classic title, he’s stunned to return to the second week of a Grand Slam tournament.
Explaining how he was doing it aged 38, Monfils said:
I’ve been just fortunate. “Every day is different. We work hard.
“I try to be very disciplined with the recovery, I have a strong belief of myself, strong belief that I can still do something at this age.
“I have big trust with my team and obviously, with a little bit of luck, here we are, second week of .”
Rybakina’s tournament in doubt
Elena Rybakina survived a huge injury scare to beat Dayana Yastremska 6-3 6-4 on Saturday, needing physio treatment on her back during the match.
The former champion was still struggling as she left the court. Staff members carried her bags so she didn’t have to put them on her back.
After the match, Rybakina was asked whether her back would be alright in time for Monday’s fourth-round match and she raised doubts about her participation.
“Not really. So I will see my physio and hopefully he does some magic,” the sixth seed said.

Fritz stunned by Monfils
Another top seed has suffered a huge upset at the .
Gael Monfils stormed back from a set down to take out world No. 4 , putting on a clinical performance to win 3-6 7-5 7-6(1) 6-4.
The 38-year-old danced in celebration as reached the second week of a Major for the first time in three years.
