In an unfortunate twist, fan-favourite Nitro, played by Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, has been ruled out of the competition due to an injury he suffered whilst training.

Resilient and ever-supportive, he will assume a different role this season, offering encouragement from the sidelines.

Confirming the disappointing turn of events on last month, he wrote: “Speed is my thing, but sometimes life throws a curveball! During training for series 2 earlier this year, I picked up an unexpected knee injury, which means I’ll be shifting gears this series and sitting out the events.”

He further reassured his followers, stating, “But don’t worry, I’m recharging and more energised than ever! You’ll still catch me bringing the Nitro spirit to your screens, hyping up my fellow Gladiators, and keeping the energy sky-high. Bring on series 2 of Gladiators!”

The upcoming series of Gladiators will introduce two fresh faces and thrilling new events, including the return of Atlaspheres from the original 90s hit.

This iconic challenge involves contenders and Gladiators navigating the arena in giant metal spheres reminiscent of hamster balls as they aim to score points while dodging their formidable opponents.

Bradley Walsh couldn’t contain his excitement about the reboot: “The new series is just fantastic, the Gladiators mean business and they are back tougher than before!”

Moreover, Bradley disclosed an innovative addition to the show helmet cameras for the contenders, providing viewers with a first-person perspective of the action. “It’s a great new feature and brings a whole new dimension to what you see,” he remarked.

Gladiators returns on Saturday on One.
