Jenna Bush Hager is weighing in on how her dad, former President George W. Bush, recently went viral for an exchange he had with another former president.
It was brought up while Jenna spoke about her dad on the Jan. 17 episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends, and talked about how her father occasionally embarrasses her.
“My dad embarrasses me. I have to be honest,” she told Taraji P. Henson, who was guest co-hosting the fourth hour with her. “And sometimes I’ll say to him, ‘Dad, the attention is going to be on you so just try to keep it cool.”
She then recalled how her father gave former President Barack Obama a friendly tap on his stomach at former President Jimmy Carter’s state funeral service on Jan. 9, a moment that has since gone viral.
Jenna noted that the “man tap” her father gave Obama was too much to handle.
“Look at this move!” she said while the clip played.
“That’s a testament to their relationship. They know each other,” Henson added, and Jenna agreed.
However, Jenna added that she wished her dad went about showing affection another way.
“I’m like, ‘Dad, something like that … just put out your hand,” she said.
But Henson countered, saying, “It literally let you know that relationship is different and special, for sure.”
The viral moment of Jenna’s dad’s gesture also played on the Jan. 10 episode of TODAY.
“I guess they’re bros?” Jenna teased alongside her TODAY family. “It’s the presidents club, just tap.”
Craig Melvin and Al Roker then jokingly tapped Carson Daly on the stomach.
