Aussie TV presenter Tony Jones hit out at the former finalist in Melbourne Park, telling 3AW Drive: “My view is she’s a brat.
“When you get people like Danielle Collins who lives this (lavish) lifestyle and then rubs our noses in it…I thought it overstepped the mark.”
His comments caught Collins’ attention, and she responded on social media. Sharing a screenshot of Jones’ comments to her story, she joked that she was happy to be called a ‘brat’, referencing Charli xcx’s critically acclaimed album of the same name.
“I love when these old dudes like Tony know the vibe. #bratsummer #brataussiesummer #charlixcx,” Collins wrote.
The four-time title winner even made a separate highlight for her post antics, sharing videos of her controversial celebration and post-match quotes.
And she was happy to double-down on her comments during her press conference “One of the greatest things about being a professional athlete is the people that don’t like you and the people that hate you, they actually pay your bills,” Collins said.
“It’s kind of a cool concept. Obviously my professional career is not going to last forever. So I just remind myself every day when I have that kind of stuff, they’re paying my bills.
“Every person that’s bought a ticket to come out here and heckle me or do what they do, it’s all going towards the Danielle Collins Fund. Yeah, bring it on. I love it.”
