Outlander season eight is expected to see Roger, Brianna and their children return to the 18th Century.
“Outlander really is more than just a show, it’s a family , and while filming might be ending, there’s so much more to this journey that’s just beginning.”
The release date for Outlander season eight remains unconfirmed but is speculated to be sometime later in 2025.
Season seven was based on Diana Gabaldon’s sixth and seventh books, A Breath of Snow and Ashes and An Echo in My Bones, respectively.
The hit series is rumoured to be heading into its eighth season, which fans speculate will draw from the eighth and ninth books, ‘Written In My Own Heart’s Blood’ and ‘Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone’.
Season eight, which will consist of 10 episodes, may diverge from the final chapters of Gabaldon’s novels, with the author actively engaged in crafting the tenth book.
Reports suggest that the tumultuous events of the Revolutionary War will take centre stage, with Jamie and Claire embroiled in the conflict, while Roger (played by Richard Rankin) and Brianna Fraser (portrayed by Sophie Skelton) grapple with their identities in the 18th Century.
Moreover, Young Ian’s (John Bell) love life appears poised for a romantic twist, potentially leading to marriage or an engagement in the new season.
Adding to the excitement, fans will be thrilled to learn that Gabaldon herself has penned the penultimate episode of the upcoming series, also contributing to the epic conclusion.
Gabaldon commented: “I think the show overall has been spectacular, and am happy to see it end gracefully.”
House of the Dragon’s Hugh Hammer star Kieran Bew is to join Outlander season eight as a retired British soldier.
Three fresh faces will debut in the series, including Kieran Bew, stepping into the boots of Captain Charles Cunningham, a retired British soldier.
‘Brew’, recognised for his portrayal of Hugh Hammer in HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’, has also starred as Big Bill O’Hara in ‘Warrior’ and as Alfonso, Duke of Calabria in ‘Da Vinci’s Demon’.
The Captain’s mother, Elspeth Cunningham, will be brought to life by Northern Irish actress Frances Tomelty, known for her performances in ‘Inspector Morse’, ‘Cracker’, ‘Strangers’, and ‘The White Queen’, among others.
Joining the cast is Carla Woodcock, familiar as Marina Perry from Channel 4’s ‘Ackley Bridge’ and a star of ITV’s teen drama ‘Tell Me Everything’.
Woodcock will take on the role of Amaranthus Grey, described as “a new member of the Grey family”.
