Outlander fans ‘sick to their stomachs’ as ‘far-fetched’ twist could ‘ruin’ the show

Warning – this article contains major spoilers for Outlander season 7.

Viewers of Outlander have been left reeling after a shocking revelation in the season seven finale, A Hundred Thousand Angels.

In the latest instalment of Starz’s captivating historical fantasy, time-traveller Claire (portrayed by Caitriona Balfe) and her spouse Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) find themselves embroiled in the American Revolution once more.

Claire, who was critically injured by a bullet in the second-to-last episode of the season two weeks ago, thankfully survives and returns to Fraser’s Ridge for a gradual recovery.

Meanwhile, some astonishing truths come to light about Jane Pocock (Silvia Presente), a sex worker named Arabella whom Jamie’s illegitimate son William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) encountered, reports .

Jane is sentenced to hang after murdering a high-ranking British officer who posed a threat to her sister, Frances (Florrie May Wilkinson). Tragically, nothing can be done to save her, and she ends her own life with a glass bottle.

However, her tale doesn’t end there. Earlier, Claire had dreamt about her ancestor Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) seeking forgiveness.

Later, when the Frasers agree to foster Frances, Claire is moved by a song she sings; it’s the same lullaby she sang to her stillborn baby, Faith, years prior.

Claire has become convinced that Faith miraculously survived and later became the mother of Jane and Frances, leaving viewers appalled by the revelation. This means William unwittingly had relations with his half-niece.

A disgruntled fan took to social media, blasting: “Ok @Outlander_STARZ i didn’t [think] ya’ll could f*** up the show anymore than u have in the past (I mean can we just completely erase S5? ) but I digress – srsly? Faith?

Another expressed disbelief: “There’s no waaaay Faith lived are they fr”, prompting a response from someone equally stunned: “I’m in utter shock right now.”

The original commenter concurred: “Like I know we gotta be open minded sometimes with this show but come onnnn that’s a bit far fetched.”

“I feel absolutely sick to my stomach,” vented another viewer. “Rollo’s death. Master Raymond dream. William sleeping w/ his half niece? Faith lived?

“Like the whole time I was like DAMN the actress that plays Jane looks so much like Brianna- WELL! I was onto sumn!”

One more fan couldn’t hide their astonishment: “I can’t believe they actually used the Faith storyline… I’m shocked.”

On , a user reacted to the twist involving William: “All I can say is that I really hope that the show does NOT go down this road.”

And another shared their concern: “I really hope that William and Jane aren’t related. I’m not sure how to feel about this whole Faith situation.

“I thought for sure that Claire was hallucinating seeing Master Raymond, but what was Master Raymond talking about forgiveness for? I need season 8 now.”

Outlander enthusiasts are in for a torturous hiatus before the arrival of season eight. However, they can take solace in the fact that a deeper dive into Outlander lore is on the horizon with the anticipated spin-off series, Blood of My Blood.

Outlander is available to watch on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
