Nineteen guests were freed on January 7 after being snowed in at the Tan Hill Inn for five days amid wintery conditions.

But all six staff and four guests, including two German tourists, as well as a dog, remained at the inn, SWNS reports.

The venue’s housekeeper, Babs Phillips, 51, now has a new granddaughter, and barmaid Kelly Dunn, 42, had to miss her daughter’s 18th birthday.

Co-manager David Rowell, 43, said he was looking forward to seeing his 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter.

He said: “We knew there was a plough coming up to try and get us out, and then when the plough got here he had bags of stuff from a local supermarket, they dropped off supplies for us and stuff like that.

“We are hoping to get out today, the plough has been up and it looks like it’s possible now, we’ve had a drive down to see how far we can get and it looks like we’re going to escape today.

“We’re still waiting on the relief staff.”

On January 8, a local farmer drove his plough to the inn with wine and sausages supplies.

David added: “Everyone was really craving chocolate, when there was no chocolate in the surprise delivery there was a few grumbles, but other than that we’ve managed to get out to a shop today.

“One of the chefs had a drive down in his 4×4 to make sure it was totally passable, he made it down there and back.”
