“Daily Show” correspondent Jordan Klepper on Thursday detailed a surprising moment with a Donald Trump supporter that didn’t lead to any major breakthroughs, but did lead to a “softening” in relations.
Klepper has spent years trolling the MAGA faithful outside of Trump’s rallies, where Trump supporters often troll him right back. In a clip posted online, Klepper explained how a Trump supporter known for wearing a suit with an image of brick wall on it started “hounding” him and his crew outside a rally in Wisconsin last year.
“He was live-streaming, and he was saying, ‘fuck these guys, don’t talk to these guys, these guys are fake news,’” Klepper recalled. “And to be fair, he’s right.”
Klepper said the Trump supporter even tried to set up a camera to catch him and his crew in a “gotcha” moment.
“It was a long, hellish day of filming,” he said, adding that a snowstorm made it all worse and cancelled his flight home. He went to the airport the following day to find his new flight was 3.5 hours late ― and to see that the man in the brick suit was waiting for the same flight.
“He looks at me and he says, ‘do you want to talk?’” Klepper recalled. “And obviously I’m like, ‘fuck no, I don’t wanna talk.’ This is a nightmare.”
But they did talk, and they had an open conversation as they learned about each other.
“There wasn’t a middle ground that we found, but there was a softening in those relations,” Klepper said. “I’d like to tell you like that Brick Suit Guy was crazy, and he’s not. He was a smart guy.”
They spoke for 3.5 hours ― and eventually, Klepper got the man in the brick suit to laugh.
“And to me, that is the whole thing,” Klepper said. “He wasn’t offended. He didn’t take it personally. He found humor in that moment, and I find optimism in that.”
The man in question, who goes by “Brick_Suit” on X, shared Klepper’s video on his feed.
“It’s a good story that’s worth a listen,” he wrote, then added a postscript:
