The teen’s father noted on a Facebook post the remarkable likeness between the child, himself and his son
The dad noticed something familiar about the child: The kid looked just like his teenaged son.
And that was bad news for New Jersey elementary school teacher Laura Caron.
The Grade 5 teacher is now accused of sexually assaulting her former student when the boy lived with her between 2016 and 2020, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said. Caron is charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child
The 34-year-old educator met the boy while teaching him and his younger brother in her Grade 5 class at Middle Township Elementary School. The alleged victim is now 19.
Caron was close with the boy’s family, with their boys and their sister allowed to have sleepovers at the teacher’s house several nights a week.
The three siblings lived permanently with Caron between 2016 and 2020, sharing a bedroom. Cops allege that late at night, Caron would have “inappropriate sexual relations” with her pupil.
Eventually, she became pregnant and gave birth in 2019 when the boy was 14.
But in December, the teen’s father noted on a Facebook post the remarkable likeness between the child, himself and his son.
According to prosecutors, the boy’s sister then told them she remembered falling asleep with her brother in the same room, but then found him sleeping in the teacher’s bed when she awoke.
And there was more: She told detectives that Caron had started sleeping with her brother when he was just 11 years old. His brother claimed he had seen Caron sexually assaulting his sleeping brother.
The boy told detectives about the alleged sexual relationship with the teacher and said that he had fathered her child.
Teacher and former student kept in contact until his father posted on Facebook in December.
Cops arrested Caron at her home on Wednesday. She is now being held without bond at the Cape May County Correctional Facility until her upcoming court appearance.
“This arrest underscores the unwavering commitment of our office and law enforcement partners to protect the children in our community,” Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffery Sutherland said.
“Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply troubling breach of that trust. We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and to support the victim and their family throughout this process.”
CBS Philadelphia reported that the Middle Township School District placed Caron on paid administrative leave. School district officials are cooperating with cops.
