‘Underrated’ spin-off from popular fantasy drama will be available to stream for free

A hit spin-off from one of the most popular American fantasy shows of the past two decades will be available to stream for free from next month.

ITVX is already home to some of the UK’s biggest dramas as well as plenty of exciting offerings from across the pond.

Some hit titles include beloved romantic dramas Gilmore Girls, Dawson’s Creek and Jane the Virgin and comic book series like Pennyworth and The Flash.

Now, fans who have already binged all five seasons of hit Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals, also on ITVX, will soon be able to check out the sequel, Legacies.

Originally airing on the CW between 2018-2022, the series follows Hope Mikaelson (played by Danielle Rose Russell), a Tribrid born from vampire, werewolf and witch bloodlines, the first of her kind.

After her introduction in the fifth and final season of The Originals, 17-year-old Hope is now attending Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted where she comes of age amidst more supernatural threats and mysteries.

Returning from The Vampire Diaries is Salvatore School’s human headmaster Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), and fans can get to know more friends and foes including love interest Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi) and witch twins Josie (Kaylee Bryant) and Lizzie Saltzman (Jenny Boyd).

While it’s not the most popular addition to the Vampire Diaries mythos, don’t let Legacies pass you by when it arrives on ITVX next month as fans agree it’s well worth watching.

“This is an underrated show that doesn’t get enough credit for what it’s able to do,” one viewer said in their Google review.

“It’s a lighter more humorous take on the TVD verse yet it’s masterful in the way it injects drama that will have even the most stone-hearted people in tears.”

They even compared it to another, more acclaimed, fantasy series, adding, “As Supernatural struggles and winds down, I am glad that there is another tv show that can and will fill the void with equal if not greater skill.”

“This is absolutely a must-watch,” someone else wrote. “The show does so many great things and it does not get enough credit…

“There is such a good mix of supernatural and drama in the show…it doesn’t get too focused on teenage drama and it also doesn’t just focus on supernatural.”

Another said: “I loved Legacies, it made me very emotional. All of the endings made me want more and in the end it almost had me begging.

“Julie [Plec, creator] picked an amazing cast and in my opinion did a fantastic job with this show.

“I think I have watched this show about four times because of how spectacular it had turned out.”

And a final viewer even claimed: “I think Legacies may be my favorite out of all three shows.”

With such passionate fans, Legacies could be the perfect nostalgia trip for anyone who enjoyed the golden age of Vampire Diaries back in the day.

Legacies will be available to stream in February on ITVX.
