“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said Donald Trump is already ticked off about one factor threatening to cast a shadow on his Inauguration Day celebration ― so GOP lawmakers rushed to fix it for him.
“You know all the flags at federal facilities are at half-staff out of respect for the passing of President Jimmy Carter?” Colbert said on Wednesday night. “Well, Trump didn’t like that on his big day.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) ordered the flags to return to full height for to “celebrate” Trump’s inauguration, but then back to half-staff the following day as the 30-day mourning period for Carter resumes.
Colbert didn’t buy that logic.
“Yes, it is traditional to interrupt people’s mourning with a little celebration,” he said, and compared it to karaoke at a funeral ― complete with a brief rendition of “Love Shack.”
