Four-door Gran Coupe also evades chopping block for 2025, reports suggest entire 8 Series line could be gone 2026
- BMW has confirmed the M8 Coupe is no longer available in the U.S. market
- The convertible and four-door Gran Coupe remain, however—at least for now
- The entire 8 Series family could be retired by 2026, though, say reports
It is unfortunate the M8 Coupe has left the market. The original 8 Series of the ’90s, the E31, was available only as a Coupe, and though an official M version of that car was never made, killing the modern M8 Coupe still seems like the wrong decision. However, not all is lost for the 8 Series Coupe, as the “regular” 840i (U.S.-market-only) and M850i xDrive coupes remain on sale.
Reports indicate the entire 8 Series lineup may be discontinued as early as 2026. The removal of the M8 Coupe from the U.S. market could signal the beginning of this phase-out. For now, the remaining convertible and sedan options provide buyers with alternatives, with the Gran Coupe and Alpina B8 offering compelling choices for performance enthusiasts seeking four-door luxury.
The possible phasing out of the BMW 8 Series so soon after its 2019 model year introduction isn’t entirely shocking, as sales likely never met expectations. As well, it replaced the previous F13 6 Series, which, too, had a relatively short lifespan of only eight model years.
