BBC The Repair Shop fans ‘crying already’ just minutes into show

Fans of BBC’s hit show The Repair Shop were left in floods of tears minutes into the programme airing.

The popular restoration show was back with another brand new episode were guest bring their most prized possesions into famous Repair shop to be restored by one of the talented experts.

First to enter the barn on Wednesday night’s instalment (January 15) was Neil Powell, who longed for a dog’s jacket worn by four-legged hero, Pepper, to be brought back to life.

The Border Collie pup, who previously qualified as a search and rescue dog at just 18 months old, worked tirelessly to help save lives in the Lockerbie bombing disaster. He also helped rescue a young German boy who had been missing for over 36 hours in terrible weather.

But when viewers found out how Pepper passed away, they were brought to tears.

Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter, one viewer said: “Already crying at #therepairshop.”

Another penned: “The border collie rescue jacket will have me sobbing by the end as I’ve had a few Border collies who looked like brave Pepper.”

A third viewer said: “Pepper was a hero, No idea of the story about the search dogs.”

While a fourth simply said: “What is is about dog collars,” followed by a crying emoji.

In 1988, after assisting search operations in the large crater at the Lockerbie disaster, the exposure to the contaminated site left Pepper and the other search dogs with tumours, and they all died.

Neil said: “As a result of that, poor Pepper, he and six other dogs they all developed tumours in their nose and their wind pipes.

“Not sure if it was the aviation fuel or what was it, but they died. Yeah, it was heartbreaking, “Neil explained.

For Neil, it was important that Pepper’s well-worn search and rescue jacket and collar were restored to keep his memory alive.

Later on in the show, viewers saw expert Suzie bring the leather collar back to life, while Rebecca washed away years of dirt from the jacket.

The Repair Shop airs Wednesday at 8pm on One
