Céline Dion is remembering her late husband, René Angélil, on the ninth anniversary of his death.
On Jan. 14, Dion took to Instagram to share a few kind words about the music producer, who died in 2016 at the age of 73.
In her post, Dion shared a photo of her and her boys — René-Charles, 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, both 14 — whom she shared with Angélil. In the snap, everyone wore cream-colored outfits while sitting together on a couch.
“René, we can’t believe you’ve been gone nine years already. Not a day goes by that we don’t feel your presence, RC, Eddy, Nelson and I,” she wrote in the caption. “You were my greatest champion, my partner, and the one who always saw the best in me. I honor you and you are forever missed mon amour…. We love you.”
Dion met Angélil in 1980 when she was only 12 years old. Angélil divorced his wife, Anne Renée, in 1985, then married Dion in 1994.
Angélil, who was also Dion’s manager, died of throat cancer in 2016, and the “My Heart Will Go On” singer has since honored him.
“Losing my husband, for my kids to lose their father, it was quite something,” she said in a 2021 interview on TODAY. “I feel like René has given me so much through the years and still today. I see my kids. I look at them — we live with him. We still live with him. He’s part of our lives every day, so I have to say that I feel very, very strong.”
Dion has not remarried since Angélil’s death. In 2019, during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” she talked to the Bravo host about her love for Angélil and her dating status at the time.
“I’m still in love,” she said. “I’ve been living all my life with René. He’s still within me.”
However, Dion said that she hadn’t closed her heart off from finding love again. At the time, she said she wasn’t dating anyone, but was open to meeting new people.
