Prince William takes on exciting new role as he heads to Birmingham for key event

has taken on a key role and has officially become Patron of the College of Paramedics – heading to today to attend its inaugural Emergency and Critical Care Conference.

The Prince of Wales has always had a strong affiliation with emergency responders, having witnessed first-hand the unique challenges faced by the community through his roles as both an .

William has had strong links with the Armed Forces and served as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot

He has also helped identify the need for emergency services to work in unity to safeguard the mental health of workers, and in 2018, William convened an ‘Emergency Responder Senior Leaders Board’ in response to research commissioned by The Royal Foundation, and conducted by King’s College London and the Open University.

Later today, will head to Birmingham to attend the conference.

is set to meet senior leaders of the College and speakers from the day as well as paramedics from a range of fields.

After, the Prince of Wales will attend two sessions at the conference focused on trauma critical care and the techniques used during Search and Rescue helicopter missions.

The College of Paramedics was established in 2001 and is a membership organisation open to all UK paramedics registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), student paramedics and also those who have an interest in the paramedic profession and healthcare delivery.

At the time, the Chief Executive of the College of Paramedics, Tracy Nicholls said: “I am delighted we have been able to achieve this on behalf of our members, and to strengthen the College for the future. Gaining the Royal Charter is the first step towards being granted the title ‘Royal’ but our journey to increase leadership and development across our profession has a solid foundation for future chartered titles and more scope for development of paramedics.”
