The Yorkshire Vet star Julian Norton feared he had ‘ended a couple’s marriage’ after retrieving a racy item from inside a .

Julian, 52, regularly encounters dogs who have managed to eat something they shouldn’t.

Recently he says that has included a puppy who ate party poppers and one whose owner believed he ate a mole.

The star says items removed from a dog are washed down and given back to the owners for “evidential purposes”.

On one occasion though, Julian says a man found himself in hot water after his pet pooch swallowed a pair of knickers.

Writing in Woman’s Weekly, Julian said: “We retrieved a pair of lacy underpants from a Labrador and gave them to the husband and wife, who were so grateful that the dog was OK – until the wife said, ‘They’re not mine.’

“The couple went off in a big commotion. The dog was fine but I’m not sure about the marriage.”

Julian admits he has to be “careful” when he’s delivering news about a beloved family pet.

He says people can find themselves getting upset if a family member left something lying around or forgot to close a kitchen door and a mischievous pet ate something they shouldn’t.

He says a lady recently was “quite distressed” after her dog attempted to jump on molehills and catch moles.

She was “terrified” after the dog caught and then swallowed a mole, thinking the mammal would bury its way out of the canine.

Luckily, the woman’s dog was fine and the woman saw the funny side later on. On another occasion he says a young puppy somehow managed to swallow a bag of party poppers.

Initially he was worried the dog would get a blockage or the poppers would explode inside the pup. Fortunately, again, the puppy was fine and eventually began to pass small piece of party popper in its poop.

Julian rose to fame in 2015 as the main practice featured on The Yorkshire Vet. He has since made numerous appearances on shows such as Our Great Yorkshire Life.
