presenter cut short a discussion on celebrity birthdays with contributor Paul Coyte as his “producer was in his ear” to let him know Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride was “on standby”.
The politician was waiting on location in Westminster to talk to Eamonn and co-host Ellie Costell, forcing them to adapt their segment. As Paul chatte, Eamonn told him: “Right my friend we have to go. Our producer is getting very irritated shouting in my ear. Because we’ve got the Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Mel Stride waiting on you to finish.”
“It’s not his birthday though is it?” quipped Paul as they took a short break before cutting live to Westminster.
Eamonn seemed happy to greet the MP, admitting he had laughed at his “Peking Duck” remark in Parliment the day before to Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves.
“So can I ask (Rachel Reeves) why she chose not to respond herself? The Chancellor, of course, ducked the difficult questions by jetting off to Beijing. I believe that in Labour circles, they are calling it the Peking duck,” he said referring to her recent trip to China.
