“Daily Show” correspondent Jordan Klepper said Tuesday’s hearings for Pete Hegseth amounted to a “quick sobriety test” for the defense secretary nominee, who has faced allegations of excessive drinking.
But Hegseth made an error right out of the gate: While naming his seven kids, he stumbled over one.
“Sorry, it’s a lot of them,” he joked.
“A little tipsy,” Klepper said, adding that a botched name was no big deal.
“My dad was always mixing up me and my siblings’ names,” he said. “And he launched perfectly successful counteroffensive rapid deployment amphibious incursions into Iran all the time.”
Klepper did suggest one thing Hegseth could have done differently.
“Pete probably should have given his kids names he could remember more easily,” he said. “Maybe like Don Julio, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker, Jose Cuervo and don’t forget little Michael Hard Lemonade.”
