Brooke Shields Shocks ‘GMA’ Hosts By Laughing At Rude Comment She Got Online

Brooke Shields seems to be enjoying the IDGAF season of her life.

The 59-year-old actor, known for 1978′s “Pretty Baby” and 1980′s “The Blue Lagoon” when she was a teen, visited “Good Morning America” on Monday to promote her new book, “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old.” In the memoir, the former model describes her experience of aging “as she flips the script on the idea of what it means for a woman to grow older,” according to her publisher’s summary.

Midway through her “GMA” interview, Shields recalled an ironic remark a fan recently aimed at her while she was promoting her book.

“I was doing an Instagram Live the other day,” Shields began. “And one of the comments was, ‘I really wish you looked the way you used to.’”

But instead of being offended or seeking validation, she threw her head back and began to laugh.

The camera then panned to “GMA” anchor Robin Roberts who looked utterly shocked by Shield’s response.

“This is why you don’t read comments!” Rebecca Jarvis said as Shields continued to crack up.

“Never read the comments!” echoed Lara Spencer.

“And I thought, ‘Boy, we’re all so out of touch, we need to find joy’” in aging,” Shields said after she was done laughing.

Earlier in the interview, Shields summed up why she has such a generous attitude toward disparaging remarks about her appearance.

“The beauty industry wants us to chase youth; we look at regrets — what if, what if,” Shields said. “And I think it’s important to understand where you’ve been, but I think it’s really joyous to say, ‘I may not know where I’m going, but I’m here.’”

She added that she wants to “look my best and I want to be healthy,” but said her focus isn’t on battling aging.

“I’ve earned everything that I have on my face,” she said. “And I think it’s important to pat yourself on your back and say, ‘What do you want to do now?’”

Shields is not the only former “it” girl” who has pushed back against chasing eternal youth.

Pamela Anderson made headlines in 2023 when she showed up at Paris Fashion Week without makeup, and she has continued to wear very little publicly ever since. The 57-year-old “Baywatch” alum later told the fashion and lifestyle outlet Highsnobiety that ditching her signature glamazon look was part of her “healing experience.”

“We all get roped into ‘Oh, I want to be successful so I can have this and this, and show people that I’m cool, chic, admired,’” Anderson said. “And then we’re all just left with debt and a fancy car. It’s just like chasing age. You’re not going to win. A life is less conclusive than that.”
