Eva Longoria calls her husband the ‘kindest human being.’ About their marriage

Eva Longoria adores her husband, José “Pepe” Bastón.

The former “Desperate Housewives” star married Bastón, a businessman, in 2016, and they welcomed son Santiago in 2018. Bastón is also a father to three children from his first marriage.

While co-hosting the Jan. 14 episode of TODAY With Jenna & Friends, Longoria said exactly what she loves about her husband.

“He is the kindest human being. It makes me seem like a horrible person,” she said. “People go, ‘You’re so nice,’ I’m like, wait until you meet my husband because he is so kind to everybody and he’s just elegant and sophisticated.”

Longoria said she hopes Bastón’s qualities rub off on their son. “I hope my son is the man that my husband is,” she said — prompting Jenna to reply, “Aww.”

Longoria was previously married to former NBA star Tony Parker from 2007 to 2011 and the late “General Hospital” actor Tyler Christopher from 2002 to 2004.

They met through a mutual friend — twice

In a 2017 interview with People, Longoria said she and Bastón were first introduced by a mutual friend in 2013.

“I was getting out of a bad relationship, and he was getting out of a relationship, so there wasn’t a connection,” she said. “So, we had a pleasant conversation but there was no real connection.”

Six months later, when their mutual friend reintroduced Longoria to Bastón, she realized there was something there.

“I had no memory of meeting him the first time, but we had immediate sparks,” Longoria said, later adding, “He was so charismatic, charming, sweet and funny. I thought, ‘Who is this guy?!’”

“I want to yell from the highest mountaintop about everything that goes on with us because I’m so happy and excited to be with a person as kind as Pepe is,” Longoria added. “He is probably one of the first men I’ve dated that has been older and established and, basically, a grown-up.”

The couple makes it a priority to ‘connect’ each day

Throughout various interviews, Longoria has let interviewers in on their home life.

During a 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Longoria said they have dinner together “every night.”

“We make it a big priority to connect every day. Plus, we are so busy in our day that at night we’re like, ‘Oh my god.’ And we’re so excited about what we did and what we produced and how productive we were,” she said.

She added, “And we have so much to talk about, that we actually love unplugging and just talking at the end of each night.”

He’s the ‘best part’ of her life

In 2017, Longoria told People that Bastón is “the best part” of her life.

“Some days it feels like we’ve been together 40 years and other days it feels like we just met,” she said. “We’re just so compatible. He’s like, ‘Let’s go paddle boarding,’ and I’m like, ‘Great!’ I’ll say, ‘Let’s have sushi,’ and he goes, ‘Sure.’ We love the same things — family, friends and traveling — so there’s not a lot we’ve learned separately about each other, but there’s a lot we learned together about life.”

José Bastón takes fashion seriously

Bastón is a stylish guy, Longoria says. She revealed hr nickname for him in an interview with People in 2015.

“We call him ‘Mr. Fancy Pants’ because he always has a pocket square and a suit,” she said. “He’s super stylish. He loves fashion way more than I do!”

The family recently moved out of the US

During a 2024 interview with Marie Claire, Longoria revealed that she and Bastón relocated their family outside the U.S. and that now they split their time between Spain and Mexico.

“I had my whole adult life here,” she said of their former neighborhood in Los Angeles. “But even before (the pandemic), it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. It just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”

“I’m privileged,” Longoria added. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Though Longoria no longer lives in L.A., she still has a lot of love for the area.

In the Jan. 14 episode of TODAY With Jenna & Friends, Longoria said that her charity organization, the Eva Longoria Foundation, has pledged to donate $1 million to the Latino Community Foundation and the California Community Foundation for their wildfire relief efforts.
