Peace lilies will bloom bigger and be stronger if you use a natural fertliser
Peace lilies are one of the most popular houseplants due to how low-maintenance they are, but sometimes it can be difficult to make them bloom.
These beautiful flowers are often not as healthy as they should be in winter since they are tropical plants which require warm temperatures to thrive.
However, there is a simple way to perk up those peace lilies and get them to grow more abundant flowers — and that is feeding them an all-natural fertiliser.
The gardening experts at have shared that banana peels contain vital nutrients that can help plants grow stronger if made into a simple homemade plant tea.
They said: “Banana or banana peel water is liquid compost or ‘compost tea’ made from cut peels. It contains many components plants need to stay healthy and continue growing.”

Banana peels contain many nutrients wthat ill encourage flower production
Banana peels are rich in potassium, which helps the roots and is also crucial for flower development.
The peels also contain magnesium, which helps the plant store more energy and can also improve plant health.
How to make banana peel tea for peace lilies
This is a simple and eco-friendly fertiliser that is cheap to make and incredibly easy to make at home.
But you cannot just toss the banana peel onto the soil of your plant as the sugar in the fermenting fruit can attract insects and other pests.
Instead, cut any leftover banana peels into small pieces, making sure they are all roughly the same size.
Place the banana peels into a jar or another container that has a lid. Add enough water to fully submerge the banana peels then cover the container.
Banana peel tea is simple to make and will give flowers a boost
Leave the banana peels alone for two to three days in the fridge so that the water can extract the nutrients.
Then, strain the banana peel pieces out of the water and you will have made a compost tea.
Alternatively, you can boil the banana peels in a pan of water. Just make sure the water has completely cooled down and is at room temperature before feeding it to your peace lily.
Mix the compost tea with five parts fresh water and then you can pour the the solution onto your peace lily.
Make sure to feed the peace lily the banana peel tea once a week, as giving the plant too many nutrients will risk over-fertilising the plant.
However, this simple compost tea should give your peace lily a boost so it grows bigger and healthier flowers during its next growing season.
