The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were heavily criticised by actress Justine Bateman, who said their appearance in LA was a “repulsive photo-op”.

Harry and Meghan were filmed by local news outlet Fox 11 on Friday as they at the Pasadena Community Centre in Los Angeles.

But Ms Bateman and took to X to express her views.

The actress wrote: ” and Harry are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. They are ‘touring the damage’?

“Are they politicians now? They don’t live here; they are tourists. Disaster Tourists. #PalisadesFire.”

Now a source close to the couple claimed they found the actress’s tweet “offensive”.

They told Page Six: “It’s offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity.

The insider added that the duchess “is not a tourist” and that “her heart is completely broken for all the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been destroyed in these fires.”

They added: “Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles so this is, and always will be, home to her.”

It is believed the Sussexes, who live in Montecito, some 90 miles from Los Angeles, have donated clothing, children’s items and other essential supplies for people affected by the fires.

Harry and Meghan are also believed to have invited friends and loved ones who had been forced to evacuate into their homes.

The source claimed: “They have also dedicated countless hours to volunteering, long before the media even caught wind of their involvement.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have declined to comment.

The LA fires, which erupted last week, have destroyed thousands of homes and killed at least 24 people in the area so far.

Authorities haven’t determined an official cause for any of the fires.

LA’s fires have thrown ‘s awards season into disarray, with the Critics Choice Awards and Producers Guild Awards nominations among the events postponed.

Meanwhile, the screening of Meghan’s new series was also postponed amid the fires.

The eight-part series Love, Meghan, which will see the former actress share cooking, gardening and hosting tips, will now premiere on March 4 instead of January 15.

The duchess said in a statement to Tudum, the official companion site to : “I’m thankful to my partners at for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
