Day three of the Australian Open is underway, with the last of the first-round matches taking place.

It was a mixed bag for the Brits overnight – took out 26th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova but lost to Matteo Berrettini.

And there has been another withdrawal as world No. 16 Anna Kalinskaya pulled out ahead of her opening match.

Meanwhile, fifth seed and three-time Aussie Open runner-up is in serious trouble in the first round, trailing a wildcard ranked at No. 418 in the world.

Kalinskaya pulls out

Anna Kalinskaya was set to face Australia’s Kim Birrell in her opening match on Tuesday.

But last year’s quarter-finalist withdrew from the tournament at the 11th hour and was replaced by lucky loser Eva Lys, who went on to win.

Kalinskaya was forced to retire from her opening match at last week’s Adelaide International and failed to recover in time for the Aussie Open.

The world No. 16 is set to drop down the rankings as she can’t defend the points she earned last year.

Medvedev on upset alert

is in serious trouble on Rod Laver Arena.

The world No. 5 took the first set against wildcard Kasidit Samrej but the world No. 418 has stormed back to take the lead.

It’s 2-6 6-4 6-3 to Samrej and Medvedev is not happy. The Russian has already hit his racket into the net in frustration and been giving his team a sarcastic thumbs-up.

The Thai tennis player needed four set points to close out the third set and take the lead but he got it done.
