As the presenter has officially been part of the show for four years, we’ve taken a look inside Nina Warhurst’s life away from her role on the show.
Nina was once in BBC’s Casualty Christmas special
Unexpected career
Although fans are used to seeing her on the iconic red sofa as a presenter, Nina once had a slightly different career.
In 1997, the 44-year-old made an appearance in Christmas special. The host took to Twitter in 2020, to celebrate the broadcaster turning 100, to share a throwback image of herself in the role with her followers.
She wrote: “Howling at finding my first appearance with Auntie Casualty…a spiky teen in polyester, keeping boys a secret, causing parents endless headaches (v method for me in 1997 luvvies ) Here’s to the next chapter. Proud to be part of it.”
Although Casualty wasn’t Nina’s only acting gig as she also appeared in the likes of Heartbeat and Butterfly collectors.
Nina lost three important people in her life close together
Heartbreaking loss
Two years ago, Nina took to social media to pay tribute to three special people in her life after they tragically died months apart. Uploading an image of herself alongside her mum and sisters while pregnant at the time, Nina touched on the sad deaths.
Speaking about those she lost, Nina wrote: “They loved us since we were kids – guided us, made us laugh, helped us feel safe. It’s been bruising having a run of grief, but made me appreciative of the support you get from the special elders of your extended village – whatever that is and whoever they are.”
Elsewhere in the tribute, Nina told her followers they celebrated the lives of those who had died. She added: “We’ve also celebrated! It’s made me realise that lots of the tears are because the right farewells are full of gratitude and are something beautiful.”
Tough childbirth
The BBC star opened up on the tough birth of her third child
Nina and her husband, Ted Fraser, tied the knot back in 2014 at City Hall in New York. Not long after, the pair welcomed their first son, Digby before their second son Michael, who was born in 2018.
More recently, the pair had their daughter Nancy in 2023, however, it seems as though her birth was less than straight forward as Nina opened up in a candid post.
Four weeks after giving birth, the star shared a glimpse into their life as a family of five. She wrote: “it’s been *haaaard* tho! A harder pregnancy. A tougher delivery and a longer recovery… maybe it’s being older… but also I’d somehow forgotten.”
Detailing the anxiety she had of labour moving from the plan, Nina also listed a string of things she was experiencing postpartum.
She added: “Part of getting older is getting better aquatinted with your limits and letting go. I’m better at stopping and saying no to visitors and yes to a messy house and yes to asking for help. (A turning point was full snot crying down the phone to the GP – resulting in a glorious prescription of kind words, antibiotics, painkillers and a follow up call about how I was coping).”
Dementia diagnosis
Nina has opened up about coping with her dad’s dementia in the past
In 2022, Nina’s father, Chris, was diagnosed with dementia. In the past, the star has opened up about feeling guilty for getting angry over her dad’s forgetfulness.
While filming a segment for the broadcaster with her dad regarding the impact the disease has on families, she confessed to having to tell small lies to her father when he didn’t think anything was wrong.
She said: “He would phone me 10 times a day, saying ‘I need you to come round’ and then I’d get there and he would say, ‘What are you doing here?’ At that point, it is hard not to be cross and that was the surprising thing, I felt really guilty because I was getting angry with him.
“I was taking it out on him and I had two tiny kids at home that I wasn’t seeing as much and I wasn’t focused at work, there are these ripples that then go through your family as well.”
In a heartbreaking post a few years back, Nina told her followers that she was left devastated after her father failed to recognise her when she paid him a visit at his care home.
However, after the birth of her daughter, the star shared a heartwarming clip of her dad with his granddaughter. In the video, the duo were seen looking at one another while chatting away.
