We’re starting to get a pretty good idea about what the might look like, but we don’t know how powerful it is and what games to expect at launch.

There are rumours of a new Mario Kart game, plus a 3D Mario, and it seems somewhat likely that Metroid Prime 4 will release as a cross-platform game between the original Switch and Switch 2.

However, according to the latest leak, third-party publisher Square Enix is working on something even more impressive for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Industry insider recently told podcast listeners that 7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth are in development for Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is expected to make its multiplatform debut in 2025, followed by Rebirth in 2026.

Given Final Fantasy 7 Remake originally made its debut on the PS4, a Switch 2 port isn’t too surprising.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, on the other hand, is a far more demanding game that up until its PC release, was only available on PS5.

If a Switch 2 port is possible, then Nintendo’s new console may be slightly more powerful than fans had hoped.

If you can’t wait for the Xbox or Switch 2 port, then the good news is that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth makes its PC debut on January 23.

The PC version features improved visuals and lighting, as well as more controller options, 120 FPS support and more.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, the console is also said to have some additional functionality compared to the current console.

The Joy-con controllers will reportedly feature magnetic hall effect joysticks, which should eliminate stick drift.

The console will allegedly launch in dark grey, although further colours may also be available.

According to previous leaks, the new console is reportedly larger than the current model, with a smaller bezel for more screen space.
