Call the Midwife viewers were left with a burning question after the latest episode of the One period drama aired on Sunday evening (January 12).
The episode took us back to the 1970s, where Trixie Aylward, played by Helen George, was seen caring for an unmarried and heavily pregnant woman who had just been released from Linchmere Mental Hospital.
Meanwhile, the district was dealing with a resurgence in gonorrhoea cases, leading Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) to start a contact-tracing scheme run by the Greater London Council.
In another storyline, the bond between Nurse Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) and Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) grew as they volunteered at a homeless shelter.
However, fans were left concerned when Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack) was noticeably absent from the episode, sparking fears that she may have left her role as a midwife at Nonnatus House.
Roger and Nancy announced their engagement last week
In the previous week’s episode (January 5), Nancy and her handsome love interest Roger Nobel (Conor O’Donnell) announced their plans to marry in six months time, following their meeting at Christmas.

To add to her string of good luck, Nancy revealed that an old job offer had come back into play, complete with a modest home perfect for a small family.
