Queen Sonja rushed to hospital after ‘skiing incident’

was admitted to hospital after suffering a skiing-related injury on Saturday, the Norwegian royal household has revealed.

The Norwegian Queen is said to suffer from atrial fibrillation which, according to the NHS website, is a heart condition that causes an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate.

Despite the hospital visit, the family – via – have shared that the 87-year-old’s condition is not thought to be serious.

Following her visit to Lillehammer hospital, the palace shared that Queen Sonja – who is married to , also 87 – has now been discharged with a normal heart rhythm.

Due to the ski-related injury, the Norwegian Queen’s royal schedule has now been cleared of engagements over the coming weeks.

Since news of her injury broke, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has since released a statement to NTB, a Norwegian news agency.

He said that he wishes the Norwegian Queen a speedy recovery “and hopes that she will soon be ready for new skiing trips”.
