A stunning stretch of coastline in has earned the unfortunate title of of the UK’s ‘worst’ beaches, with visitors claiming it doesn’t live up to the hype.

Blackpool Sands, despite its name, is neither located in the iconic North West seaside town of nor does it boast sandy shores.

Instead, it’s nestled in Devon and is made up entirely of sharp pebbles, making it a far cry from the typical sandy beach experience.

Daytrippers have been left frustrated after arriving at the beach expecting to frolic on soft sands, only to find themselves hopping uncomfortably on jagged stones.

Out of 1,153 Tripadvisor reviews, 250 were rated as disappointing, according to a report by Preply, which analysed the nation’s most popular beaches to identify those with the most negative feedback.

“Purposely misleading and seemed designed to encourage emergency shoe purchases from local shops. It’s perfect for those who want to hate their family and don’t mind a bit of discomfort,” one unhappy visitor wrote, claiming that the pebbles were far from ideal for barefoot beachgoers.

Other visitors echoed similar complaints, highlighting the sharpness of the pebbles. “Don’t be fooled by the name – there’s no sand, just shingles. We drove a long way to get here and were so disappointed. The stones were too painful to walk on barefoot,” another review stated.

“Save yourself the £5 parking fee and go somewhere else,” one frustrated beachgoer advised, criticising the beach for its lack of character compared to other nearby coves.

Blackpool Sands has become infamous for its pebble-strewn shore, but it’s not the only “big hitter” beach to disappoint UK holidaymakers.

North Shore Beach in Llandudno has also been ranked as one of the most disappointing beaches across the country.

Visitors complained about the uncomfortable pebbles and hazardous conditions, with some even questioning why the stones hadn’t been cleared.

For one couple who hoped to revisit the area where they had honeymooned 50 years ago, North Shore Beach was a huge letdown.

“The beach was once beautiful, but now it’s covered in large grey rocks. I wouldn’t swim here now, and the tiny patch of sand left is overrun with children trying to build sandcastles,” they said.

While Blackpool Sands may not live up to expectations, it does provide a rather unique experience – ideal for those who are looking for a beach that offers a bit of discomfort along with their views.

Whether it’s a family outing you’re after or simply a chance to test your stamina, Blackpool Sands may be just the place for you – just pack sensible footwear!
