The world’s richest chef is likely somebody who you have never heard of, with an estimated net worth more than double that of and combined.

is in fact only fourth on the list of the world’s richest chefs, with an estimated net worth of £164 million.

‘The Naked Chef’ as he has affectionately been known since he rose to prominence on our TV screen in the late 1990s, left school at 16 before cutting his teeth in Parisian and London restaurants.

After starring in a documentary in 1997, the Essex-born cook was given his own TV show, raising his public profile and accelerating him to the top of the culinary world.

The bulk of his fortune came from his restaurant empire which saw Oliver open dining spots across the world, as well as his best-selling cookery books promoting nutritious home cooking and initiatives.

Edging Oliver in the list is Gordon Ramsey, with an additional £16 million to his name, making him the third richest chef in the world.

The Michelin-star chef, who saw a promising football career cut short by injury, also rose to prominence on TV after learning his trade in the harsh environments of London’s restaurants, where he cut his teeth working for chefs such as Marco Pierre White.

So successful was Ramsay that he managed to take his TV stardom across the Atlantic, the scene of perhaps his most famous TV moment when he put a piece of bread on either side of a poorly-performing chef’s head and made her shout: “I am an idiot sandwich”.

Despite the phenomenal success of the two British chefs, their net worth pales in comparison to the world’s richest chef Alan Wong, who is believed to be worth a staggering £880 million.

Wong made his name cooking Hawaiian food, popularising the combination of local ingredients with unique, traditional recipes. He even cooked for US President in 2009.

Like both Ramsey and Oliver, Wong expanded his career to include restaurants, providing critically acclaimed gourmet cooking with a unique creative flair.
