Max Verstappen’s dad rejects Red Bull star’s wish after F1 retirement – ‘Quite critical’

does not fancy a father-son activity that star Max has been pushing for once he is done with F1.

With four world titles on the bounce, is quickly becoming one of the most decorated drivers in the history of the sport. Verstappen sr. was no slouch in his day, starting more than a century of Grands Prix and reaching two podiums in the 1990s and 2000s.

Verstappen the younger has made no secret of the notion his F1 career will be short and sweet compared to the likes of and , who are racing into their 40s.

The reigning quadruple world champion wants to try his hand at other forms of motorsport. And competing in the 24 hours of Le Mans alongside his father is one of his primary goals.

“I keep telling my father that we should do it,” said the 27-year-old. “He doesn’t want to do it, but I would add him to the team as a fourth driver.”

Now, Jos has made it clear that he does not plan to take part in Le Mans, on account of the fact he would be too slow to keep up with his son. “Max keeps talking about it, he really wants to do it,” he told . “But I look at it quite critically. I am much too slow for him. That is why I prefer to rule it out at the moment.”

“I mainly want to have a pleasant time in F1, with nice people around me and a competitive car,” he said in the Viaplay documentary Verstappen: Lion Unleashed 4. “Once you have been successful for a long time, I will not continue racing for P12. That is not fun and a waste of everyone’s time.”
