Katie Piper has announced that she is having an artificial eye fitted, after years of surgeries to try to save her real one.
The panellist suffered eyesight loss in her left eye following a horror acid attack by an ex-boyfriend and had to undergo operations to save it. However in the years since, she developed infections and at one point last year had her eye sewn shut for months to help it “heal”.
Now she has taken decisive action, announcing on that the best solution for her now is to get a prosthetic eye fitted. She shared photos and video footage of her procedure, captioning the emotional post: “After many years battling with my eye health, I’ve reached the end of the road somewhat, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell.
“This marks the start of a journey to have an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me. As always I’m incredibly grateful to all those in the NHS and private health care system for their talent and kindness.”
She concluded: “I will share my journey, I’m hopeful and nervous about being able tolerate it and would love to hear from any of you in the comments if you’ve been on this journey or have any advice…”

In just a single hour, Katie’s fans came through for her with over 17,000 likes – and they declared her “one brave and beautiful lady”.
One follower wrote: “You’ve already battled through so much & your positivity is truly an inspiration to so many. I have been through some eye issues including a cornea transplant but nothing compared to what you are continuing to go through.
“I know eye issues can be so painful so I really hope this works well for you & takes away some of your pain. Good luck. You’ve got this xx.”
Another chimed in: “Dearest Katie I simply want to say that you are incredible not just for courageously navigating through these challenges but because you are so full of compassion for others. Love and hugs.”

Meanwhile, fans were also amazed that she’d maintained a “healthy mind” throughout her painful ordeal, commending her on her positive thinking and branding it an “incredible inspiration” to anyone suffering.
Earlier this year, Katie also posted some advice which she directed at anyone considering their New Year’s Resolutions.
She recommended: “Don’t try and mirror someone else’s resolutions, or ‘new year, new me’ choices, because it’s not a competition.
“Work at your own pace and acknowledge your wins within your own boundaries and your own capabilities.”
