A royal expert believes and could mend their feud should the Duke’s “most hated” royal figure depart.

Sir Clive Alderton, 57, has worked for Charles and Queen Camilla for almost 20 years, playing a crucial part in royal life.

But he’s never gained a fan in Harry. Writing in his autobiography Spare, he called him “The Wasp”, saying he “was lanky, charming, arrogant, a ball of jazzy energy”. “He was great at pretending to be polite, even servile,” he added.

“Because he seemed so weedy, so self-effacing, you might be tempted to push back, insist on your point, and that was when he’d put you on his list.

“A short time later, without warning, he’d give you such a stab with his outsized stinger that you’d cry out in confusion. Where the f*** did that come from?'”

But royal experts now suggest he could be on the way out. Princess Diana’s biographer Tina Brown has claimed a source told her Sir Clive is considering retirement.

In her Fresh Hell Substack blog, she went on to say that a replacement for the aide could help “create a new, friendlier path for negotiations” between Charles and his youngest son.

Meanwhile, royal correspondent and Woman Magazine columnist Emily Andrew wrote in a piece titled “Harry’s Biggest Enemy” that there are rumours that he could be in the running for the role of US ambassador, under the President’s wing.

She wrote: “Of all the men in grey suits that detested at Buckingham Palace, one [Sir Clive] stood head and shoulders above them all.

“I hear that Sir Clive could be moving to pastures new. There have been rumours that he could be running for the all-important role of US ambassador (where he would need all his diplomatic skills when returns for his second term as president this month).

“Or, having worked for Charles almost 20 years, he could be ready to retire.

“Given that he appears to play a crucial role in the relationship between the King and Harry, reconciliation between father and son could arguably be much more likely with him gone. Could this mean an important breakthrough for Harry?”
