Rod Stewart’s tattoos explored with poignant tribute and sons connection

isn’t afraid of stripping off for a beach trip or two – and he’s a fan of showing off his impressive tattoo collection.

The music legend, who turned 80 on Friday (January 10), dedicated one upper arm tattoo to a cause very close to his heart. The Sailing hitmaker sat down in 2023 to have his favourite football team inked permanently on his skin.

In an snap posted in April that year, Rod offered his arm to a tattoo artist while wearing a chunky gold necklace, to have the words Glasgow and Celtic inked on his arm, alongside an intricate Scottish lion tat he already sported.

Though he’s had the lion for decades, the new addition was done in Aukland, New Zealand, to share his love for the sport and his favourite team. He announced on social media: “Getting a ‘Glasgow Celtic’ tattoo in Aukland to celebrate my beloved team. You’re always in my heart @celticfc.”

He said: “On one arm I’ve got the Scottish lion and then I got the Celtic one after we did the treble last year. On the other shoulder I’ve got a thistle which I had done when my dad died in 1990, just to be able to always remember him as I loved him so dearly.”

The star added in a 2023 interview: “But all my boys have something Gaelic or Celtic tattooed on the. Even little Aiden can’t wait to have his done and he’s only 12 – so he’ll have a while to wait.”

Rod’s thistle tattoo winds all the way around his arm and under his armpit, ending i a thick black flower on his shoulder. In shirtless beach snaps taken in 2014, Rod left this tat clearly visible as he downed painkillers on a family trip while his kids played in the sea.
