Who are the 5 living U.S. presidents, now that Jimmy Carter has died?

Former president Jimmy Carter’s funeral on Jan. 9 saw the gathering of all the living U.S. presidents in the same room. 

A former Georgia peanut farmer, Carter was the first president in American history to live to be 100

Joe Biden

How old is Joe Biden? 82

Biden, born on Nov. 20, 1942, is the oldest president in U.S. history.

The former vice president spent much of his presidency working on climate, infrastructure and economic policies, including the Inflation Reduction Act.

In July 2024, Biden chose not to run for re-election. He is finishing up his term and delivered a speech at Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

Donald Trump

How old is Donald Trump? 78

Born on June 14, 1946, Donald Trump, the 45th president, is returning for office for a second term in 2025.

Since leaving office, Trump has been living in Mar-a-Lago in Florida and has faced several legal battles.

He won re-election in November 2024. By the end of his second term, Trump will become the oldest president in U.S. history.

Bill Clinton

How old is Bill Clinton? 78

Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of the United States, was born on Aug. 19, 1946. Elected at 46 years old, Clinton was the third-youngest president in U.S. history.

Since leaving office, the former president supported his wife Hillary Clinton during her 2016 presidential campaign.

He has continued his philanthropic work through the Clinton Presidential Foundation, focusing on causes like HIV/AIDS prevention and racial and economic equality, per its website.

Clinton’s new memoir, “Citizen,” was published last November.

Weeks before Carter’s funeral, Clinton was hospitalized after developing a fever.

George W. Bush

How old is George W. Bush? 78

Born only days before his Bill Clinton on July 6, 1946, George W. Bush, the 43rd president, is only slightly younger than Donald Trump. 

Since leaving office 16 years ago, he has been enjoying life on his Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas, and has taken up art.

Bush’s paintings, mostly of pets and world leaders he met during his time as president, are showcased in his presidential library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

He also painted TODAY’s own Hoda Kotb and published a book of paintings of members of the U.S. military called “Portraits of Courage.”

Barack Obama

The youngest living president, Barack Obama was born on Aug. 4, 1961. At 47, Obama became the 44th president of the United States. 

In 2017, after serving eight years in office, he took a vacation to the Virgin Islands, dropped his eldest daughter Malia off at college and was summoned for jury duty in Illinois

These days, he is busy with the Obama Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to “inspire, empower, and connect people to change their world,” per its website.
