Two people arrested in Abbotsford after crashing stolen vehicle

The crash caused traffic delays in the area of Vedder Way and Marshall Road in east Abbotsford on Wednesday.

Two people were arrested after a stolen vehicle crashed into other cars at a busy intersection in East Abbotsford on Wednesday.

Police also found a firearm inside the vehicle.

Abbotsford police said the incident started at around 3 p.m. on Jan. 8 when officers tried to stop a vehicle in the area of the Lonzo shelter that officers thought may be involved in the drug trade.

The driver sped away from police, crashing through a fence. Officers didn’t give chase “due to the reckless driving of the suspect vehicle,” said police in a news release.

The vehicle headed north and crashed into two cars at the intersection of Vedder Way and Marshall Road, about 700 metres away. The occupants of the bystander vehicles weren’t injured, said police.

The suspects fled on foot but were found and arrested with the assistance of the canine squad. They remain in custody.
