Four out of every 10 Britons have altered their daily routines over the past year to inject some excitement into life, according to research.

The study suggests that most Brits believe it’s crucial to vary their daily activities to maintain motivation and stave off boredom. As a result, they are now making changes in an effort to save money and energy.

Don’t miss…

A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that one in three (32%) have abandoned their loyalty to a specific supermarket in search of better deals and cost savings on their shopping, while 30% have begun batch cooking for the week ahead.

One fifth have even chose to watch less TV in the evenings to conserve more energy, with 22% opting for an earlier bedtime.

Most importantly, a quarter of Brits are making adjustments to their home energy use, doing so by limiting the number of appliances they use simultaneously and mixing up their routines to help cut costs of ‘high-energy consuming’ applicances.

The research was commissioned by Smart Energy GB to emphasise how adopting more flexible home habits could lead to savings on bills.

According to Smart Energy GB, this can be achieved through energy reward schemes, which incentivise customers to use energy at different times of the day and can be accessed with a smart meter.

Consumer finance expert Steph McGovern has said: “I always want to make sure that I’m helping people make their money work harder for them, and I’m conscious of doing the same in my own life.”

She added: “It can be easy to put off admin jobs like getting a smart meter, but it’s clear that they open up lots of opportunities for people to save, like by giving them access to reward schemes.”

Only 27% are aware of schemes offered by their energy provider which can reward them for being more flexible with their energy usage.

However, 79% of those who are aware say they have used the scheme and benefitted from it. After adjusting their routine, it was reported 87% saw savings when it came to their energy bills.

“It’s great to see millions of smart meter owners are benefiting and saving money on their bills,” commented Victoria Bacon, director at Smart Energy GB.

She further added: “Being able to access schemes that reward you for being more flexible with your energy usage can be especially helpful at this time of year when we’re spending a lot more on heating, hot water and lighting.”
