A popular motoring personality has urged looking for a luxurious yet reliable family saloon to consider one model that can be bought for as little as £2,500.

Jonny Brighton runs the YouTube channel and regularly posts videos in which he recommends a wide range of that can be bought for .

In , Jonny recommends that drivers who are after a cheap executive car that is unlikely to let them down look at the third-generation , stating that divisive styling has helped prices to fall.

He explained: “The is a luxury executive saloon built as a competitor to German rivals in this space with less flashy externals and more luxurious internals.

“This third-generation GS came with the new finesse Lexus styling, which is probably Lexus’ most controversial design language to date as some people think they look elegant while others think they look the wrong side of muscular and bulgy. Either way, I think that helps its sleeper status, as it’s not a car that turns heads but gives the driver a lovely place to be.”

Built between 2005 and 2011, the third-generation Lexus GS was the Japanese company’s rival to premium European models like the Jaguar XF, Audi A6, and Volvo S90, offering unconventional styling and plenty of cutting-edge technology.

In the video, Jonny particularly recommended the GS450h, which features a powerful V6 hybrid powertrain that can take the saloon from 0-62mph in under six seconds whilst still averaging over 35mpg.

Currently, drivers can get behind the wheel of a used Lexus GS450h from £2,500, with cleaner, low mileage examples typically fetching about £4,000.

Later in the video, Jonny highlighted that the Lexus also features a particularly surprising level of equipment for a model approaching 20 years old.

He added: “The list of tech available for you as a driver or passenger is seriously cool – it’s not far off a modern car. Some features include the solar energy-absorbing glass, which is also water-repellent too.

“Add on the quality of life modifications Lexus brought to the car, including electrochromatic features to reduce the glare from sunlight, and you can tell these were built specifically to make the occupants as happy and comfortable as possible.”

Whilst the Lexus GS450h offers particularly good reliability, Jonny recommended that motorists interested in buying an example should check all of the electrical components, including the hybrid battery pack.

He advised: “The main source of problems on these has come from the battery pack for the electric motor, but the rest of the powertrain is known to be very solid.

“As these came with so many luxury features for their time, non-engine electrical issues are also known, but usually aren’t too difficult to resolve.”
