Afterwards, the pair had a joint interview with retired star Andrea Petkovic, who quickly brought up De Minaur’s engagement to Boulter and gave Alcaraz the opportunity to congratulate the happy couple.

“I mean, I already told him congratulations. I don’t know if you’re sure about it!” the Spaniard joked, earning laughs from the crowd and from De Minaur.

After his cheeky jibe, Alcaraz sent his well wishes to the couple, though he quickly ran out of things to say, blaming his age.

He continued: “But no, I’ve seen them in the tournaments. I mean, I don’t know Katie very much but it seems that she’s a very nice person so I think you’re going to enjoy this marriage, hopefully everything is going to be good. And yeah, congratulations! As you said, I’m too young to talk.”

Petkovic also noted that Alcaraz remained single and on the market. And the 21-year-old joking that it could be his year to find love after watching his colleagues get engaged during the off-season.

“Who knows this year? No engagement so far, single so far. But these holidays, three or four tennis players got engaged. I thought it was my turn,” he smiled, quickly clarifying that he was just having a laugh. “No I didn’t!”

Alcaraz also made a change during the off-season – he got a new haircut. The Spaniard revealed his new buzzcut look on before heading Down Under.

Explaining why he changed his hairdo, he said: “I discussed with my barber that I get a haircut and, as you say, in three days it’s gone. I have to do more often but I don’t do that.

“I mean, new year, I knew that I was going to be here in Australia. It’s 40 degrees, it’s hot out here, so I thought that I needed something new, you know? So I did it.

“I already did this haircut a few years ago and I just like it, so probably this year it’s going to be a new Carlitos in style. So probably I’m going to try something new this year.”
