Emmerdale fans are sceptical of Anthony Fox’s (played by Nicholas Day) terminal cancer revelation, prompting a backlash from viewers who’ve branded him “calculating” and “evil”.

The ITV soap’s storyline has gripped audiences with harrowing twists as Ruby Fox-Milligan (Beth Cordingly) attempts to cope with her traumatic past; she was sexually abused as a child by her father Anthony, who, after many years, has re-entered her life, unsettling her greatly especially as she suspects Anthony might be the biological father of her daughter, Steph Milligan (Georgia Jay).

Determined for closure, Ruby decided to pursue a DNA test in hopes of confirming that (William Ash) is the true paternal figure for Steph. A plot twist emerged when Anthony told Caleb about his allegedly terminal prostate cancer back in November.

Yet, viewers aren’t quite buying Anthony’s illness narrative, with one fan expressing doubt on social media: “I think he’s playing everyone about his cancer, anybody that does that is sick in the head! ! ” Echoing the sentiment, another viewer commented: “It’s calculating and evil,” while a third participant mused: “Yes I think he is to cover his tracks everyone is feeling sorry for him, so when it comes out from Ruby what he’s done Caleb won’t believe her.”

A fourth commenter was sceptical, posting: “I think he is lying. I don’t think he has cancer at all, horrible man.” Another viewer expressed their doubts, writing: “Yep lying to work his way back in to the family, no one has been to any appointments, creepy man he is certainly playing a very good part as a slime ball.”, reports Leeds Live.

Someone else chimed in with skepticism about the storyline, mentioning: “He wouldn’t get cancer news like he said over a phone.”

Yet another person voiced their dislike for the character: “All of a sudden Anthony is at the heart of every place in the village. He makes speeches like he knows everyone He is so creepy. Can’t stand this character.”

Fans are left on tenterhooks, eager to find out if Ruby will obtain the DNA results she’s after and whether or not Anthony is truly facing a battle with cancer.
