Test captain has given himself a new nickname – “Bionic Man” – after another trip to the operating theatre for his hamstring.

In the wake of a severe tear to his left hamstring during England’s last game of 2024 in New Zealand, Stokes required an operation and faces a three-month recovery period away from the cricket field.

The all-rounder took to with an update on his condition, sharing an image showing himself reclining in the backseat of a vehicle, his leg secured by a substantial brace and cushions.

Stokes humorously captioned the post “Bionic Man for a while” complete with a laughing emoji, and signed off with “in a bit…”.

This injury repetition echoes a previous incident where Stokes missed four Test matches due to a torn hamstring incurred while featuring in the Hundred last August.

After a rigorous rehab programme, he seemed to regain full health, only for the gruelling demand of cricket to overtake him once more in Hamilton against New Zealand.

Forced to leave mid-over, Stokes could not return to the fray. Although Stokes is already out of the running for the forthcoming Champions Trophy and with no Test matches on the horizon until May, the formidable player has ample opportunity to reach his optimum fitness.

Stoke’s resilience remains firm following the injury, saying: “I ain’t holding back. Every setback, I come back stronger. There’s no doubt I’ll be going away from here… and getting myself back to where I was. That’s my job.”
