and were both overlooked as Express Sport readers picked the worst F1 driver of the 2024 season. The unwanted honour instead went the way of , who was dropped mid-season by following a pointless start to the season.
Ricciardo’s F1 career came spluttering to an end in Singapore. The 2024 season was touted as a potential comeback opportunity for the eight-time race-winner, but he scored just three top-10 finishes in 18 Grand Prix starts before bosses opted to swap him for Liam Lawson.
Young New Zealander Lawson went on to take another top F1 job before the end of the year. The 22-year-old was called up by to replace Perez for the 2025 campaign after the Mexican endured a nightmare end to the worst season of his career.
After scoring four podiums in the first five races, Perez was targeting a tilt at a maiden Drivers’ Championship title, but his season quickly fell apart. He never stood on the rostrum again and scored just one top-nine finish in the final eight Grands Prix before being unceremoniously dumped by .
In a survey of 2,080 Express Sport readers, Perez (23 per cent) and Ricciardo (five per cent) polled third and fourth, respectively, while Valtteri Bottas (two per cent) was the driver fifth in the order.

Stroll ended the year 13th in the Drivers’ Championship standings, contributing just 24 of Aston Martin’s 94 total points. Even more concerning was his form in the second half of the year – the 26-year-old ended the season with an 11-race run without a top-10 finish.

However, Stroll was pipped to the unwanted award by Sargeant, who was dropped by Williams after crashing during free practice at the Dutch Grand Prix. The American racer failed to score a point in 2024 and put his team under significant pressure due to crash damage before being replaced by Franco Colapinto.
The Florida-born racer now embarks upon a new chapter of his career in his native United States. Sargeant signed a deal in December, setting himself up for a season in the European Le Mans Series with IDEC Sport.
