Davina McCall’s heartbreaking conversation with family before brain cancer surgery

TV presenter was diagnosed with a “very rare” colloid cyst, just weeks after she opened up about the necessity of confronting the taboo topic of death.

She opened up about her outlook of life changing as she addressed what the emotional conversations she would have with her family.

Reflecting on the losses she has faced, including her father Andrew in 2022 and her sister Caroline to cancer in 2012 at the age of 50, the now 57 year old Davina spoke about her ease with the concept of mortality: “It doesn’t frighten me,” she declared. She also highlighted that she has made sure to prepare her loved ones for her own passing.

Davina’s approach to finding peace with death lies in celebrating life itself, as she remarked, “I spend a lot of my time now telling the people I love what a f*****g great life I’ve had. So that if something were to happen to me suddenly, they’d know – I’ve loved my life.”

A staunch advocate for candid conversations, Davina had previously expressed her views while discussing Emma Willis’s series, Delivering Babies.

Speaking to The Observer, she said, “It’s a privilege to be at someone’s birth and it’s a privilege to be at someone’s death. And I feel like I’m quite good at it.”

In a poignant revelation on , Davina shared her recent diagnosis with her followers, reports Manchester Evening News.

Coming to terms with the severity of her condition, Davina McCall confronted her health woes head-on, admitting: “I realised that I have to get it taken out,” and described the alarming size of the tumour, stating: “It’s big for the space – it fills the space. It’s 14mm wide. And it needs to come out because if it grows it would be bad.”

She disclosed the complicated nature of her imminent surgery, which will require part of her skull to be removed to extract the 14mm growth.

With a mix of hope and nervousness, she implored her supporters to “Say a prayer for me” in preparation for the daunting operation that may extend to six hours. Following this ordeal, recovery will demand Davina, an avid fitness enthusiast, to abstain from intense exercise for at least a month.

Nevertheless, Davina can draw comfort from the leaps in medical advancements that now see craniotomy success rates being considerably high.
