Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar thought they would have two or three children. They obviously exceeded that goal.
The Arkansas couple’s large brood ended up becoming the focus of multiple reality series on TLC, the most memorable of which was “19 Kids and Counting.”
Now that the “kids” are mostly adults, many have moved away and started families of their own. But in Dec. 2024, all nine of the Duggar sisters managed to get together and they shared a rare video of that moment.
Joy-Anna (Duggar) Forsyth, who posted the video on Instagram, joked that her younger brother James was behind the camera lens. He seemed to especially enjoy zooming in on his sister’s faces.
Forsyth wrote, “How does my mom not age?”
Jim Bob proposed to Michelle with a $350 ring on Christmas Eve, 1983, and they got married the following summer, three months after Michelle finished high school and three days after Jim Bob’s 19th birthday.
They enjoyed three years together as a couple before becoming parents. Let’s catch up with each of their 19 children.
Josh Duggar (born March 3, 1988)
Josh Duggar starred on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” until it was cancelled in 2015 over revelations he had molested four of his sisters and a babysitter. Jim Bob and Michelle said he had confessed to the fondling and apologized.
The following month, Josh confessed to having a pornography addiction and cheating on his wife.
In April 2021, Josh Duggar was arrested for downloading photos and videos portraying the sexual abuse of children, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He pleaded not guilty but was eventually convicted of “receipt and possession of child pornography,” carrying a possible sentence of anywhere from five to 20 years of imprisonment.
Josh married Anna Keller in 2008 and they have seven children: Mackynzie, Michael, Marcus, Meredith, Mason, Maryella and Madyson.
Jana (Duggar) Wissmann (born Jan. 12, 1990)
Jana may be soft spoken but she has a lot of eldest daughter energy. She was often called upon to manage her younger siblings, and they all seemed to look up to her.
Jana is handy and creative, as evidenced by the tiny house she decorated and shared with the world in June.
On Aug. 15, she married Stephen Wissmann, who also comes from a big family. He has 13 siblings, one of whom (Hannah) is married to Jana’s brother, Jeremiah.
She watched 11 of her 18 siblings get married before her. “All of my siblings, most of them have been married in their early 20s,” she told People two days before her wedding celebration. “By far, I am the oldest. So it has been disheartening at times.”
But it seems like Wissmann was worth the wait. To celebrate their one-month anniversary, Jana wrote in an Instagram post, “Life with you keeps getting better, and I can’t help but smile thinking about all the sweet moments we’ve shared.”
John-David Duggar (born Jan. 12, 1990)
John-David Duggar is Jana’s fraternal twin.
On the family’s reality show, John-David tended to be one of the quieter siblings, but he would often add a sarcastic comment when he could get a word in. He is a pilot who often flies family members around.
In Nov. 2018, he married Abbie Burnett, who also happens to be a pilot. She appeared to bring him out of his shell. The couple now has two children: Grace and Charlie.
According to Entertainment Tonight, John-David, Abbie and then 1-year-old Grace were involved in a plane crash in 2021. John-David reported “double engine failure” before landing the plane in a field in Tennessee. There were no injuries.
Jill (Duggar) Dillard (born May 17th, 1991)
Jill married Derick Dillard in 2014 after a courtship that was featured on the TLC show. After their marriage, they served others as part of their family ministry in Central America for about two years.
Jill is licensed as a certified professional midwife and Derick is an attorney. They wrote a bestselling book about their upbringing called “Counting the Cost.”
The couple have three active boys: Israel, Samuel and Fredrick.
Jill and Derick announced a pregnancy loss in April 2024. Jill was four months pregnant when baby Isla Marie Dillard died in utero. In a post commemorating the loss, Jill wrote, “We will love you forever and hold you in our hearts until we hold you in heaven.”
Jessa (Duggar) Seewald (born Nov. 4, 1992)
Jessa tended to be one of the more talkative siblings on the reality show. Together with Jill, she headlined a spinoff show titled “Jill & Jessa: Counting On.”
Jessa met husband Ben Seewald through her family’s church. Because they lived over three hours apart from one another, Ben moved into a building on the Duggar property while they were courting. His proposal to Jessa was featured on the show.
Today, the couple has five kids: Spurgeon, Henry, Ivy, Fern and George. Jill publicly revealed that she has also had two miscarriages.
Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo (born Dec. 21, 1993)
Jinger Duggar Vuolo is currently pregnant with her third baby. The newest arrival will join Jinger’s daughters, Felicity, 6, and Evangeline, 3.
“It’s so exciting. I cannot believe it!” said Jinger in an Oct. 15 YouTube video. “We’ve talked about having another baby and wanted to try but I’ve been unsure how quickly everything’s going to happen and oh my word — wild.”
Jinger is married to Jeremy Vuolo, a former professional soccer player from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Jeremy happened to become friendly with Ben and Jessa, who eventually introduced him to Jinger.
The pair got married in 2016 and eventually moved to Los Angeles so Jeremy could pursue full-time pastoral studies at the Master’s Seminary there.
Jinger and Jeremy host a podcast and wrote a book together. Jinger has also written two books of her own: “People Pleaser” and “Becoming Free Indeed.”
Joseph Duggar (born Jan. 20, 1995)
Joseph Duggar is a real estate broker. In his family’s blog, he wrote that he loves working with his hands and playing sports with his brothers.
After proposing to Kendra Caldwell at his sister Joy-Anna’s wedding, he got married in 2017. The couple has four children: Garrett, Addison, Brooklyn and Justus.
Josiah Duggar (born Aug. 28, 1996)
Josiah Duggar has worked as a contractor, pilot and a car dealer.
He married Lauren Swanson in 2018, and their first pregnancy, which ended in miscarriage, was covered on TLC. They now have three children: Bella, Daisy and Ezra.
Joy-Anna (Duggar) Forsyth (born Oct. 28, 1997)
Born in the middle of a string of brothers, Joy-Anna often appeared to struggle in finding her place in the family.
She married a family friend, Austin Forsyth, in May 2017 after a three-month engagement; they announced their first pregnancy in Aug. 2017.
After their oldest child, Gideon, was born, they suffered a miscarriage at 20 weeks pregnant. They named their daughter Annabelle Elise. They went on to have two more children: Evelyn and Gunner.
Jedediah Duggar (born Dec. 30, 1998)
Jedediah, or Jed for short, is half of Michelle and Jim Bob’s only set of identical twins.
He married Katelyn Nakatsu in April 2021. In an Instagram post he wrote, “We have enjoyed quietly developing our relationship over the past year and every moment together has been amazing!”
The couple has two children, Truett and Nora, and they’re expecting twin girls.
On the family website, Jed wrote about his love of politics. He has joined in the family business of buying and selling pre-owned vehicles.
Jeremiah Duggar (born Dec. 30, 1998)
Jeremiah is Jed’s identical twin.
He married Hannah Wissmann on March 26, 2022 and they have two young daughters, Brynley and Brielle. He is a pilot and a certified flight instructor. He also loves to play piano and has served as the choir director at his church.
Hannah’s brother Stephen recently married Jeremiah’s sister Jana. In a post from the wedding day, Jeremiah wrote, “I liked the last Duggar/Wissmann wedding better, but this one was great too.”
Jason Duggar (born April 21, 2000)
Jason flips houses and supervises construction as a licensed contractor. He likes woodworking, singing, hiking, hunting and black coffee.
He proposed to Maddie Grace on Aug. 24, 2024, and even though the photo hashtag was “#Spring2025,” People reported that the couple got married on Oct. 3, 2024, just a few days before the bride turned 21.
James Duggar (born July 7, 2001)
James is a tinkerer, a fixer, a cattle rancher and an all-around helper. He also has his commercial driver’s license.
The family website says, “Whether you need a truckload of mulch or fertilizer for your garden, or to chase down an escaped farm animal, he’s always on call.”
Justin Duggar (born Nov. 15, 2002)
Justin is an athlete and a hard worker who works with his brothers doing property maintenance, real estate renovation and new construction.
He married Claire Spivey, a fellow snowboarder, on Feb. 26, 2021.
Jackson Duggar (born May 23, 2004)
Jackson always seemed to be the prankster on the family’s reality show. Chatty and outgoing, he often acted as the spokesperson for his brothers.
He loves whistling and has been known to torture his family by catching snakes, bringing them inside and saying, “I wonder if this one is venomous!”
Johannah Duggar (born Oct. 11, 2005)
Johannah brought some girl energy back to the family after Jim Bob and Michelle added six boys in a row.
She constantly tidies up the house, collecting all of the belongings her nieces and nephews leave around the house and placing them in a neat pile.
Johannah loves to sketch and play volleyball, and she’s always ready to lend a hand.
Jennifer Duggar (born Aug. 2, 2007)
Jennifer is the family’s ultimate animal lover, and she’s also extremely good at crafts. She sews clothes for her nieces, makes soy candles and tries new recipes.
She may seem serious but is often ready to play a joke, and she loves the giant family slip and slide.
Jordyn-Grace Duggar (born Dec. 18, 2008)
According to the Duggar family website, Jordyn-Grace does a lot of calligraphy and art, and she loves getting her older sisters’ opinion on her outfit of the day.
She enjoys caring for babies and little ones, and has been a flower girl at many Duggar family weddings.
Josie Duggar (born Dec.10, 2009)
Josie’s harrowing birth and NICU stay were a focus of the family’s reality show.
She was born when Michelle was less than 26 weeks into her pregnancy and she weighed just 1 lb., 6 oz. She lived in the NICU for 6 months before finally leaving the hospital.
Today, Josie is a teenager with a lot of energy. She’s a talented musician with near-perfect pitch, and she cares for several pet mice.
Jubilee Duggar (stillborn Dec. 11, 2011)
According to People, Michelle was told at a routine ultrasound that her baby no longer had a heartbeat. At the time, she was 19 weeks pregnant.
Following advice from her doctors, Michelle returned home to let the miscarriage occur naturally, without the use of medication. The family’s grieving process and memorial service were captured on camera by TLC.
This was Michelle’s second miscarriage. She had an early miscarriage after her son Josh was born.
