Canucks: Thatcher Demko leaves game vs. Seattle with possible injury

Thatcher Demko left the game for the Vancouver Canucks against the Seattle Kraken during the second period on Thursday.

The team’s No. 1 goalie left the ice midway through Thursday’s game in Seattle against the Kraken and was replaced in goal  by backup Kevin Lankinen.

It’s not clear what Demko’s status is, whether he might be injured or dealing with some other issue.

But it is unusual for a goalie to suddenly leave his crease mid-period. And of course Demko missed most of this season so far recovering from an injured popliteus muscle in his left leg. He hurt the muscle, which is the back of the knee, at the end of game one of the first round series vs. Nashville last April. The injury was exceedingly rare, with just a few dozen documented case across all of global sport.

The Canucks have been asked to provide an update on the goalie’s status. More information will be coming.
