The most deadly plane crashes of 2024 have been revealed following the death of nearly 200 people in a South Korean crash on Sunday.
On January 2, a catastrophic runway collision at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport saw Japan Airlines Flight 516, an Airbus A350-900 from Sapporo, collide with a , leading to both planes catching fire and being completely destroyed.
Of six occupants of the Coast Guard’s De Havilland Canada Dash 8, only the captain survived with serious injuries, while the remaining five crew members tragically lost their lives.
On January 24, a Russian Ilyushin Il-76M transport aircraft carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, three other passengers, and six crew crashed in the Belgorod region of , killing all of them.
In the same region on March 12, a Russian Ilyushin Il-76 military transport aircraft crashed near Belgorod , resulting in the death of all 15 people onboard.

On April 18, Kenya suffered a significant loss when General Francis Ogolla, the country’s , along with nine other Kenya Defence Forces members, died in a UH-1 Huey crash in western Kenya.
On July 24, Bombardier CRJ200ER, operated by Saurya Airlines, met a tragic end shortly after taking off from Kathmandu, Nepal, for a test flight to Pokhara. The pilot was the sole survivor of the crash that claimed 18 lives.
On August 9, a tragic incident unfolded when an ATR 72-500, operating as Voepass Linhas Aereas Flight 2283 from Cascavel to Sao Paulo, near Vinhedo, Sao Paulo.
The crash claimed the lives of all 58 passengers and four crew members on board.
On Christmas Day, Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243, an Embraer E-190AR, was hit by a Russian surface-to-air missile and crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. The crash resulted in the death of 38 out of the 67 occupants onboard.

The most catastrophic air disaster of 2024 occurred on 29 December when a Boeing 737-800, operating as Jeju Air Flight 2216, while attempting a belly landing in Muan, South Korea.
The accident resulted in the death of 179 out of the 181 passengers and crew on board.
This makes Flight 2216 the deadliest plane crash of the 2020s so far, surpassing the International Airlines Flight 752 crash and making it the second-deadliest involving a Boeing 737, following Lion Air Flight 610.
