Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott Makes Highly Awkward Mistake In Tribute To Jimmy Carter

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) made an embarrassing flub with his statement that paid tribute to former President Jimmy Carter, who died Sunday aged 100.

The Donald Trump-admiring Republican governor hailed Carter for his “selfless service to the American people” in a statement shared on social media.

But Abbott also said that he and his wife, Cecilia Abbott, send “our prayers and deepest condolences to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and the entire Carter family,” reported multiplemediaoutlets.

Former first lady Rosalyn Carter, though, died aged 96 in November 2023.

The statement was later revised to remove any mention of the late former first lady, reported the Houston Press.

As one social media user quipped, “the internet doesn’t forget.”

Greg Abbott sent condolences to Jimmy Carter’s wife – who had been dead a year

Turns out he isn’t as bad as we thought. He is worse – he’s bad and stupid.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott mistakenly offers condolences to the late Rosalyn Carter on the death of her husband, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Rosalyn Carter passed away on November 19, 2023.

Did anyone in the Governor’s Office Proof the Condolence note? @GovAbbottpic.twitter.com/VHLE3kQDkl
